FabSugar posted a very thorough gallery of pictures from the Vanity Fair Oscar after party, and I have been combing through it all afternoon. I've smiled, I've gagged a little, I've swooned and I've frowned. I suppose when literally everyone whose anyone is at the same party, there are bound to be a fair number of really awful outfits. If you want to see them, head over to FabSugar.com and click around to your heart's content. I choose not to pollute my blog with such sartorial sadness, so here are a bunch of things I really liked. From Rosario Dawson and Taylor Swift just classing it up to Hathway and Firth looking so cute and smiley... Even Tory Burch and Tom Ford were there to rep the fashion set. The VF affair was full of celebs from all spheres of fame, even of the Disney variety. Oh, to be a fly on the wall (or better yet, a sequin on a gown) at that party... (All images via FabSugar.)

just a little SAG awards style...

Oh, award season, it's in full swing. Sunday night we had the Screen Actors Guild Awards, which brought a few delicious printed and textured looks, and a lot of forgettable yards of monochromatic tulle, crepe, and silk. So lets just cut to the chase, shall we? I'll kick things off with my personal favorite, constant style star Claire Danes:

I am crazy about this Louis Vuitton look on her. The belt adds a cool, casual element to a very formal shape and great print. Prints are always an interesting choice for the red carpet, and almost always go awry, so I really appreciate her success. The red nails and pink lips, plus her sleek-but-loose hair are also great finishing touches.

Ok, so I haven't seen True Grit yet. People, movies in New York are too expensive. It's on my to-do list, but on this budget, $12.50 is an amount I am usually inclined to spend on a few cocktails instead of a few hours in a theater. Anyway, look at this girl in Prada SS11! Lovely, chic, perfect.

Mila Kunis would probably look stunning in anything, and she is really rocking this Alexander McQueen gown. She, like Danes, is an example of prints done right. And the belt! Now that I look at it, hers and Danes' dress are pretty similar. The point is though, so gorgeous.

I'm definitely not digging January Jones' hair here, but I love this Carolina Herrera dress. The cut is so flattering and sophisticated, and I am a huge advocate of lace in t-shirt shapes, like the top of this gown. Jones can really work a high fashion look, and I always look forward to seeing her red carpet choices.

the golden globes - quick & dirty...

Ok, lets just get right down to it with the Golden Globes. Spare me the worst dressed, spare me the blah and the mediocre. What you are getting here is only what I loved from the red carpet. You want to see the rest? Try here, or here. Both beloved, but I just don't have the energy for all that summarizing. Without further ado, my absolute best dressed vote, the out-of-nowhere stunning Emma Stone:

I mean, really!? Remember her in Superbad? All readheaded and cute, but rather ordinary? She's toned and blonde and apparently has a brilliant stylist. I am completely in love with this Calvin Klein peach gown. The clutch and hair are the perfect compliment, and a true testiment to the power of simplicity. Have I gushed enough now? Let's move on to my next pick, also in stunningly simple Calvin Klein, Claire Danes:

Hot pink rarely looks so classy, am I right? The cut of this dress really suits her, and like Miss Stone, she (her stylist) hit the hail on the head with her accessories and hair. Very similar, to be sure, but who cares when it's such a great choice. This dress may just top the nude, sparkly strapless she wore last year that I was absolutely obsessed with. Moving right along, my next favorite look is disco, brunette brilliance courtesy of Anne Hathaway (a la Rachel Zoe, of course):

She's a walking disco-ball with shoulderpads, and I love it. Party on Hathaway! Rachel Zoe knows glam, and she picked the right girl for the dress with this combo. I don't think many women could balance ease and poise it takes not be swollowed whole by a dress with that much sparkle. Again, the right accessories and hair really keep this look on this side of overwhelming. Speaking of overwhelming in a good way, Olivia Wilde:

This Marchesa creation is like a fairytale. Its hard to tell in photographs, but it's actually a delicious shade of chocolate brown. I also love that she went all out with some really intense Christian Louboutin heels. I may also be partial to this dress for the dream that in my head, since we have a similar haircut, that such a dress would look the same on me.

OK, so there you have it. Those are my picks for the best dressed at the 2011 Golden Globes. Left wanting? Fine. I guess I could throw out a few more enjoyable GG looks...

Angelina Jolie's green sparkles are fetching, and I love the fit, but the hair, not so much.

It's not everyday you see a 14-year-old in Prabal Gurung, looking age-appropriate and super-stylish.

Amy Adams in Marchesa, I believe.

Ahhh, fine. Catherine Zeta Jones looks beautiful. And look at Micheal Douglas out on the town post-cancer. Loves it.

We can only hope to look as good as Jane Fonda when we reach her age. What a stunner.

What's new Eva Longoria? Lovely in black.
